The Pectel SQ6M & SQ6M12 Range of controllers [and other Pectel products] use an internal memory battery, which is used to retain logging, internal Real Time Clock data, as well as fuel learning adaptives and other learned portions of calibrations. These batteries have a long life, but do not last forever. Generally, lifespan is between 5 and 10 years, depending on how much usage the module has had, and the temperature range of use. Generally, modules in use last longer than modules that sit unpowered.
If your module randomly loses its logging or settings, loses its logbook, loses VCAM or Throttle Learned Curves, has a clock that resets when key-off, or does not properly keep time without power applied, this is a sure sign of a failing battery. We have experienced other issues as well, such as corrupt learnt fuel maps, and even glitches in programming that can occur while the ECU is powered, usually related to the fuel maps or learned parameters. In some cases, these can cause limp modes, error codes and fuel cuts, making the vehicle unpredictable and unreliable at times.
This service includes the professional replacement of the SQ6M board mounted battery, as well as an update of the Real Time Clock so that it will again be the correct date & time. Generally, we can turn these around in < 1 week.
Optionally, we can load the newest firmware available, and supply a new dataset or regrade your existing dataset to the newest version. Please note, this would be billed hourly to complete, and you must have the passphrase for map excess if not doing a full dataset replacement. Also please note that upon correcting the RTC, it is possible that service date warnings or timers may expire if they were set in the software, so please if at all possible have access to the passphrase.
